The Convention was well organized and took place quite successfully. I heard 900 Toastmasters had registered their participation in the Convention. It's unbelievable for me that such many Toastmasters would have joined the Convention. In addition it seemed to me every Taiwanese had been involved in sessions at the Convention and had enjoyed together. As I talked on the stage of the opening ceremony in response to District Governor Dick Fu's request, we, Japanese people, must learn from you, Taiwanese people. Last but not least, I would like to thank Ms. Marian Hsiao, chair of the Fall Conference Organizing Committee for inviting "Japan Eleven" to the 67 & 76 Joint Party after the Convention and continue to nurture our friendship between Taiwanese and Japanese Toastmasters.¡@ |

Taiwan is the BEST¡I Frank Cabullido Kurume TMC |
Wow! District 67 has taken District conference standards to a new high level! To me, the Taiwanese Toastmasters have amazed me even more that those 1979 Taiwanese Little Leaguers had! You all are THE best, just as Lance Miller had said! Thank you all so much for injecting me with more Toastmaster fire power and for your extremely warm hospitality! What's even more impressive is that this was the Fall Conference, not ¡V what we would consider in Japan, the bigger one ¡V the Spring Conference. Either you treat both conferences equally (I think we should do so in Japan too!), or Taiwan's Spring Conference is even more sizzling and electric. That would be too dizzying to imagine! It's been three weeks now since returning to Japan, but I still can't keep my mouth shut about how great an experience it was for me: the incredible people, the non-stop dancing, the opening dance act by what seemed like top male teenage idols, the perfectly executed conference, the excellently produced program book, the wonderful tote-bag with its perfect size, pockets and logos, the prestigious venues, and on and on! At this rate, I probably won't stop talking about Taiwan until around spring time next year! Also, I think my ¡§Taiwan was so great!¡¨ talks in my classes (I teach at the university level) were so convincing that at least three of my students said they would like to go there during spring break. I¡¦ll definitely ask them to visit a Taiwan Toastmasters club then! Here in Japan, our District is the younger sister of yours. And I'm sure that if Japan's Toastmaster all could see what was going on in Taiwan, everyone would feel nothing but pride for having such an older sister we can strive to emulate. Well, please allow me say it now: "Thank you, Taiwan Toastmasters, for the best Toastmastering experience I have ever enjoyed thus far!" Wishing you and everyone in District 67 the very best!¡@ |

I love the people. All of Toastmasters in Taiwan are so kind, friendly, and energetic. I¡¦ve noticed there are a lot of talented entertainers. Some of you are almost professional. I enjoyed your shows very much. I love the food. Everything that I ate in Taiwan was so delicious. I¡¦m looking forward to eating Taiwanese food again. I love the language. Coincidently I started studying Chinese last year. While I was in Taiwan, I tried to speak Chinese as much as possible. I couldn¡¦t speak Chinese well, but you were so kind to teach me Chinese words and correct my grammatical mistakes. It has been great help to me. I really appreciate it. «D±`·PÁ¡C I¡¦m so glad that a lot of people have been studying Japanese, and they speak Japanese fluently. Maybe some of you speak Japanese better than I do. Still, as a native speaker, I could teach you Japanese. Fellow Toastmasters, §Ṳ́¬¬Û学²ß¡C¥[ªo!
I will continue to study Chinese. And in the near future, I¡¦ll be back.
See you again. |

Find Your Voice and Serve the

I was impressed with the enthusiastic "March of Flags" of over 100 clubs. I myself joined the March, proudly carried the Kitakyushu flag onto the stage. It was a well organized Conference not only for registration, but also the opening ceremony, contest procedures, dinner party/entertainment, award ceremony, etc. I want to compliment the special dance performance by many volunteering groups, including the Japanese clubs, and the dynamic/exquisite modern dancing by the Taiwan University Club members. They probably practiced a lot to get ready for the day. I applaud for the great success of the Convention. I'm certain that all the participants understood the real meaning of "Find Your Voice and Serve the World" slogan. There are many things that D76 could learn from D67. Can you suppose how many times I asked, "Are they really Toastmasters? Aren't they professional dancers?" What talented members! Before visiting Taiwan, I thought Japanese clubs would have only senior people. I was wrong. I found many young Toastmasters, and they spoke very wonderful Japanese. Now I'm afraid (or I hope) that I will be a repeater. I am looking forward to seeing you all again both in Taiwan and in Japan near the future. Last but now least I really appreciate your kind hospitality and warm welcome.¡@ |

District 67 Fall Convention
2005
Akiko Ogawa Kyoto TMC |
The experience of attending the 2005 District 67 Fall Convention had such an effect that may change my view and attitude toward Toastmastering significantly. On the first day of the convention, I was given an opportunity to serve as a judge for the Japanese humor speech contest. It was a very refreshing experience to judge speeches spoken in my native language given by speakers for whom the language is not the native one. It made me reaffirm the fact that there are more important things to make a good speech than being fluent in the language spoken.
I was
very impressed with the speakers' use of props, sound effects, and
supporting actors to add colorful touches to their speeches, not to
mention their fluency in Japanese. The speakers were also very lively. I
learned a lot from them that I can use to improve my own speech skills. In
fact, now I'm thinking of practicing my speeches in Japanese. |

It snows hard in Japan after Taiwan Fall Convention 2005. Taiwan is warm or a little hot, Taiwanese are warm-hearted to us. Although I stayed in Taiwan for only one week, I had a lot of sweet and wonderful memories of Taiwan. World Public Speech Champion 2005 Lance Miller was the keynote speaker at the Convention. Whenever he appeared on stage, I was impressed by his energetic and inspiring presentations from the bottom of my heart. The photo was taken by Akiko Ogawa, VPPR of Kyoto Toastmasters Club, it would be one of my best treasures. Luckily I was invited to be on the Judge Panel at D67 Humorous Speech Contest in Japanese. I was so surprised to know that many Taiwanese study Japanese language, and they were good at it both in fluency and proficiency, including even young people. It made me a proud Japanese. Also I was impressed with Chinese poetry recital (Shigin). Everybody had a beautiful and powerful voice. Japanese spirit is well transferred and planted in Taiwan. And I hope this movement would continue in Taiwan. Everyday we had gorgeous parties full of talent shows by toastmasters members. In the middle of the dinner show Saturday evening, Awaodori dancing turned out to be a big hit. Everybody stood up and danced to the music. At the Joint District 67 & 76 Party Sunday evening, both Taiwanese and Japanese continued to show their talents one after another. I recited a famous traditional Japanese song ¡§Yokyoku TAKASAGO¡¨ to celebrate the success of the Convention. On our last day in Taipei, Imamura san and I joined Sunrise Toastmasters Club as guests. We had a pleasant time. When I sang Japanese folk song KUSATSUBUSHI in German and in Japanese, so many members got on their feet to dance. I was very happy. Besides the convention activities, I had a chance to visit many famous places in Taipei, University of Chinese Culture, Late Lin Yu-tang Residence, Chu-ming Museum, Shin-lin Residence, National Palace Museum, Lung-shen Temple, Taipei 101, and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
¡§Fall in Love¡¨ was a nice and
elegant theme (Catch Phrase). I¡¦m looking forward to ¡§Spring in Love¡¨ for
the next Convention. Spring means jump up, growth, and youthfulness.
Finally I¡¦d pray for the further development and expansion of District 67.
Thank you so much for your hospitality, see you again at your next
Convention ! |

D67 Fall Convention Gave Me
Great Stimulus
Chieko Fujita

Nonetheless, this time I was amazed and impressed by the Taiwanese Toastmasters' enthusiasm. What I was surprised at first was its great number of members and their exuberant vitality. Furthermore I was deeply moved by feverish excitement filled the spacious venue for the evening party. Taiwanese members are excellent entertainers playing as well as professionals, besides they are outstanding English speakers. At Joint Districts 67 &76 Party at the night before we left, I got the same impression. Many people talked to me in English very friendly with cordial hospitality. I really enjoyed a pleasant time with you. I was much inspired by you and thought I would push myself more positively into everything. Much to my regret, I could not attend so many meetings, especially English speech sessions, because of my very short stay. If I had another chance to visit District 67 Convention, I'd like to attend much more meetings and enjoy conversations in English with Taiwanese Toastmasters. Therefore, I have to make an effort to improve my English through Toastmastering. Finally, I would like to thank you all again for the wonderful hospitality. |
