做正確的事 - 分會幹部訓練補訓 |

Dear Leaders &
fellow Toastmasters, Time flies!
It’s almost two months since we started the new term of service in July.
In the past two months, we had the first club officer training; we
attended International Convention in Palm Desert, California, U.S.A.;
and soon Judges Training will be held in different divisions around
Taiwan. It’s being a busy yet fruitful period time. Every year,
the District will hold two club officers training. Club officer Training
actually helps club officers to have a better idea about Toastmasters
program and about their respective roles and responsibilities,
especially for those enthusiastic yet junior members elected to serve as
club officers. In the past years, I’ve heard so many feedbacks from
those members that club officer training really benefited them. On the
other hand, as club officers, you have obligation to participate the
training. As the Lt.
Governor Education and Training, I am responsible for supervising the
training and making final report of the training record to the World
Headquarters. In order to verify the training record, what I did is I
would double check the training registration form with club officer list
acquired from the World Headquarters. The club officer list given by the
WHQ is the summary of the officer lists submitted by each every club by
the end of June. Credit is given only when the signed name matches the
name on the officer list given by the WHQ. After
carefully checking, there are 52 clubs that didn’t meet the requirement
to have at least four officers participating the training. I’ve sent the
result to all division governors asking for their confirmation. From the
responses I received and the correspondence I made with governors, I
realized that there are several misunderstanding and reasons for the
result. First, I must say that the number of people signed on the
registration form does not necessarily equal to the number of officers
trained. Second, deputy officers do not get credit. Third, some say in
the past, as long as there are people signed, credit is granted. Honestly
speaking, I have no idea how it’s been done in the past. But from my
point of view, I am doing the right thing in the right way. Let’s not
forget the four core values of Toastmasters and “Integrity”
is one of them. I believe we should do the right thing in the right way
from now on. I’d like to thank Mike Yang, District Governor, for his
understanding. After discussion, we decided to hold makeup training in
the afternoon of Sep. 11 in Taipei.
For those clubs that didn’t have enough officers trained and those club
officers who missed the training, please do grab this opportunity.
Sincerely, Grace Shih
