Dear Toastmasters in Taiwan
Thank you for much for your concerns and warm messages. My family,
friends and I are safe and fine. Most of the Toastmasters in Kanto Area
are safe as well however as TM Watanabe wrote below three Toastmasters
clubs in Tohoku Area got affected, and I am very worried about their
whereabouts.
As you know many lives were lost in the massive Tsunami waves, which
breaks my heart.
FRIDAY, March 11
Last Friday, at 14:46, big and long shake hit my office building. It
started a subtle movement, but got stronger, and I didn’t tell when it
would stop. The shake was then bigger than I had experienced before.
When it stopped, I went out of the office building.
The shakes came many times, but fortunately electricity, central hearing
systems, network were all alive. HR announced that all trains were out
of service. I decided to stay at the office until Saturday morning, but
fortunately IT manager picked me up and sent me on his car.
The highway was shut down, and roads were crowded with many cars, and
people who walked back home. It took me about 4 hours to get my home.
TODAY
Two nuclear power stations in that earthquake area became out of
service. They are one of the main power source for Tokyo and
metropolitan area. Therefore Japanese government decided to start
Planned Black-Out from today.
I usually come to the office taking three train lines, and two of the
three are out of service today, so I am home now. The planned back-out
in my area was announced to be started at 6:20 am but it was cancelled.
AFTER-SHOCKS
Last Saturday and Sunday yesterday, many after shocks hit here and
Northern part of Japan. And this morning one mildly big one hit this
area. Again, I am safe.

心やさしい台湾の友人の皆さま
このたびはご心配を本当にありがとうございます。
私自身、家族、そして私の友人は大丈夫です。関東地方のトーストマスターズのほとんども大丈夫ですが、被災地の東北地方にある3つのクラブのうち仙台トーストマスターズクラブ、気仙沼トーストマスターズクラブがとても心配です。会員の消息がまったくわかりません。
今回の巨大な津波で多くの生命が失われました。本当に心が痛みます。
3月11日金曜日
先週金曜日の14時46分ころ、大きく長い地震が私の会社を襲いました。最初はわずかな揺れでしたが、すぐに大きくなり、どんどん大きくなりいつ揺れが収まるかわからない恐怖がありました。揺れは私がこれまで経験したものよりも大きかったです。揺れが収まったときに会社の外に出ました。
揺れは何度もきましたが、幸いなことに会社の電気、暖房、ネットワークはすべて生きていました。会社の人事が、電車がすべて止まっていると教えてくれ、会社に翌朝まで泊まることにしましたが、会社の人が車に乗せてくれると申し出てくれました。高速道路は閉鎖。一般道は大渋滞で4時間かけて帰宅しました。
本日
被災地にある二つの原子力発電所が停止しております。この二つは東京と首都圏に電気を提供する重要な発電所です。この停止により政府は「計画停電」を決定しました。
私は、普段会社に来るのに3つの電車を使っていますが、今日は二つの電車が計画停電の影響で運行を停止しており、今自宅におります。
私の地域の計画停電は朝の6時20分から停電するはずでしたが、解除されました。
余震
先週土曜日と昨日、何度も余震が来ました。今朝も比較的大きな余震が来ましたが、無事です。
