麥譽耀,DTM會員之一,花了短短7年的時間,從一位普通分會的會員,走到地區總會長,再到國際演講會區域顧問。區域顧問到底是什麼職位? 主要負責什麼工作? 而要成為一位區域顧問,需要具備什麼樣的能力或注意什麼細節呢?

身為來自國際演講會第67區第一位國際演講會區域顧問(並成功連任),在2022-2024兩年度期間,服務了橫跨東北亞及紐澳地區及東馬共十六個地區總會,協助多個地區總會達成傑出地區總會等佳績。他將在這場工作坊中,揭開這個職位的面紗、分享身為一位領導者所具備的溝通技巧,結合領導能力、如何與來自不同背景和文化的人們溝通合作,以及如何與他人建立好關係,讓他們願意和你一起向同一個目標前進,而非需要你三催四請或要脅說服。歡迎與我一起發掘如何強化你的溝通與領導能力!

 

Matthew Mak, DTM, took only 7 years, to go from a regular member to district director, and eventually a Toastmasters International region advisor.
 

What kind of position is a region advisor? What exactly does a region advisor do? What kind of ability should a region advisor possess and what details should one pay attention to if one is interested?
 

As the first-ever region advisor from District 67 and successfully serving two terms, Matthew will take the opportunity to unveil and share his experience of serving as a region advisor who served and supported a total of 16 districts across East Asia, East Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand during his two terms of service from 2022 to 2024.
 

What kind of communication skills does a leader need to have? How does it connect with leadership skills? How to communicate and collaborate with those from different backgrounds and cultures? And how to build that personal relationship so that they willingly work with you towards a common goal and strive for excellence?

In my personal experience, these hard skills and soft skills support me to reach the level not only in the job title but my mindset of a true “leader.”

What I benefit as being a Toastmaster for 38 years

 

  1. I joined Taipei Toastmasters Club in 1987 when I was studying my Ph. D. program in Tatung University.  English ability did help me much in my academic study in an environment where it was of non-English speaking, yet being based on the English research materials in Taiwan.
  2. Public speech abilities help me much in preparing my talks in my seminars or conferences, etc., and help me much in delivering my contents in those events.
  3. My training in the Toastmasters Club does let me usually conduct the sessions of any seminars or conferences in a way with full confidence in my Prof. career.
  4. Communication skills I learn in Toastmasters Club help me in the academic societies for idea exchange with people.
  5. Toastmasters skills are excellent materials with that I can teach my students how to be a good speaker in a professional event.

How to excel in your career using the skills obtained from Toastmasters

 

In my segment of this workshop, “ How to excel in your career using the skills obtained from Toastmasters.” I will share my personal experience of how Toastmasters had a direct impact on my working career after moving to Taiwan. I will take you through my journey that started with a casual business relationship with a company from the USA, that led me to join Toastmasters because of a recommendation from the CEO of the company.  My 10th speech, to earn my first milestone  “Competent Communicator Award” would have a big surprise effect on my career!

I hope that attendees will take away a mindset that time spent in Toastmasters, gives you a personal laboratory and framework to learn, develop, practice, and apply valuable real-world interpersonal and career skills, so that you have the courage to step up and take on challenges in the real world, because of your preparation building a good foundation, gaining self-confidence while putting in the work in Toastmasters, doing speeches,  other meeting assignments, and taking officer roles.
